History of Chirnside Park Veterans

The creation of the Vets was the due to the initiative of Peter Anthony and Craig Smith back in late 2000. After many phone calls, pre-season training finally kicked off on a warm January summer night. PA & Scud managed to convince club stalwart and life member Mick “Chief” Carusi to come out of retirement and coach the eager group that had been compiled.

The boys had managed to convince some pretty handy recruits in the inaugural year including Jack & Tiger D’Angelo, Jason Rewse, Karl & Shane Oates and many more.

2001 Highlights
Undefeated in the home & away season and eventual Premiers

2002 Highlights
Runners Up

2003 Highlights
Beaten by a point in the semi final. Mick Carusi won the competition best & fairest medal

2004 Highlights
Undefeated in the home & away season and eventual Premiers. Arguably the best team ever fielded by our Vets.

2005 Highlights
Moved across to stronger the EFL competition but struggled for numbers following a number of retirements from the previous Premiership year. Managed to finish in 4th spot and run the eventual Premiers to 17 points in a very tight semi final clash.

2006 Highlights
Just prior to the start of the season we merged with Lilydale after failing to generate enough numbers. Unfortunately, Lilydale only provided us with five players which was just enough to field a side most weeks. After a few early losses we managed to gather some momentum towards the end of the season which included a couple of great wins against reigning Premier Bayswater the old arch rival Sth Croydon. In the end we just missed out on a finals berth.

2007 Highlights

After a reasonable start to the season the boys managed to squander a few missed opportunities to finish the season in 6th place. The year finished with a great win against Nth Ringwood, the inclusion of some handy old stalwarts certainly helped to give the guys a lift. Highlights for the season included stellar years from Dools and Choco and this was certainly reflected at the B&F count.

2008 Highlights

The year started off on a positive note with club legend Mick ‘Chief’ Carusi taking over the reigns as playing coach. Former veteran greats Jack D’Angelo, Lez Kimpton and Craig "Scud" Smith were lured out of retirement and they along with a couple of fresh faced 33-36 years olds certainly helped reinvigorate the ageing list. Unfortunately the boys missed the final four by 2 points, but are clearly back on track and looking forward to a big pre-season campaign. Highlights for the season included a fantastic year from the big Greek George Lantouris who kicked 49 goals taking out the Club B&F along with the league goal kicking, new recruit Brian Upton's season where he finished 2nd in the B&F and the fact that we were more than competitive against all the final 4 teams. Bring on 2009.
